Governor vacancies
Parent Governor vacancies - March 2024
We would like to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor, or to support another parent to do so. We currently have two vacancies which we are seeking to fill.
The Governing Board, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school, with three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the leadership team to account for the educational performance of the school and its students, and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
No particular qualifications are needed to be a governor; the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the Governing Board’s work. However, to complement the skills of the current Governing Board members we would on this occasion particularly welcome nominations from parents with professional expertise in financial management, higher education or the wider education sector. Previous governance experience is not as important as enthusiasm and a commitment to contribute.
If you would like to stand for election please complete the nomination form, which can downloaded here or from the link at the foot of this page.
The form should be returned by email to Mrs Sue Littman, Clerk to Governors at her email address suelittman@lgs.slough.sch.uk no later than 12.00 noon on Monday 25th March. You must include a short personal statement, no longer than 150 words, to support your nomination; you must also have your nomination endorsed by someone with a close connection to the school, preferably another parent.
Online meeting for interested parents
If you are seriously considering standing and are not currently a serving LGS governor, you are asked to attend a short online meeting prior to returning the nomination form. This is to help you to understand the role of the governing board and provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions. This meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 14th March at 5.30pm with Claire Fitzgerald, Chair of Governors, and John Constable, Headteacher. If you do decide to stand, you must confirm on the form that you have attended this meeting. Applications from nominees who have not attended this meeting will not be accepted. Please confirm your attendance at this meeting by emailing Sue Littman, Clerk to the Governors, at suelittman@lgs.slough.sch.uk by 12 noon on Monday 11th March in order that joining instructions can be sent to you.
