Success for year 12 in ICMA Stock Market Challenge
On Monday 2 July 2018, 6 year 12 students were lucky enough to participate in the ICMA Stock Market Challenge at Henley Business School, Reading University. This was the first year our school entered the competition so we had no prior insight as to how things would go - but we ended up as the second best team overall!
This story was written by Sonia in year 12.
Nine other schools were also taking part, with 55 ‘teams’ of 2 in total - schools ranged from The Abbey School in Reading itself, all the way through to Gravesend Grammar School in Kent.
Overall the day was both challenging but also extremely enjoyable, as we spent it quite competitively ‘trading’ on the specially designed programme ran on the computers. This mimicked real life situations by providing us with news events and having companies' graphs to analyse, to decide whether to either buy or sell shares and therefore ultimately end up making a good profit. After one practice session to ease us into the day, we competed in two intense 45 minute sessions - both of which, our teams were within the top 3 positions and ultimately ended up as 2nd place overall.
Students that participated (left to right) were Jeeva, Anika, Yash, Ramanan, Amandeep & Sonia.
