Year 11 Sixth Form Taster Day
On Wednesday 16th January the students in year 11 got a taste of life in the Sixth Form, sampling different A Level subjects and finding out about the wide range of opportunities the Sixth Form provides.
This article was written by Rushil in year 11.
We began with an introduction from Ms Makowski, our head of Sixth Form and learnt about some of the different requirements the school has in order to gain entry into the Sixth Form. Then, we had several seminars throughout the day, in which we learnt about the A-level courses for a range of subjects, such as MFL, Art and Music. We were also introduced to 3 new subjects: Economics, Psychology and Sociology. The information given was designed to help us decide what we might want to study at A Level. Plus, we found out about other things that the Sixth Form offers alongside our academic studies, such as enrichment courses like Public Speaking.
Finally, to end the day, we were able to have our questions about the Sixth Form answered by some of the year 12 students. This was very useful, as from this we were able to understand how the jump from GCSE to A-level is quite big even though we are studying fewer subjects. We also found out more about what Langley Grammar has to offer in the Sixth Form based on what they had experienced, and we found that the school offers a lot of support and opportunities to help us progress as people.
Overall, we would like to thank Ms Makowski, Miss Northcott and Mr Aplin, as well as all the other teachers who made this day such a success. It was very enjoyable, and we all gained an insight into the life of a Sixth Form student at Langley Grammar School.
