Governor vacancies

Parent Governor vacancies - Spring 2025

We would like to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor, or to support another parent to do so.  We currently have one vacancy which we are seeking to fill.

The Governing Board, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school, with three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the leadership team to account for the educational performance of the school and its students, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

No particular qualifications are needed to be a governor; the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the Governing Board’s work.  Previous governance experience is not as important as enthusiasm and a commitment to contribute. Much of the contribution that governors make is through attending board meetings and committee meetings, which take place regularly through the year and are normally scheduled for the early evening.

If you would like to stand for election please complete the nomination form, which can downloaded here or from the link at the foot of this page.

If you would like to stand for election please complete the nomination form, which can be found under ‘Governor vacancies’ on our website here.  The form should be returned by email to Mrs Sue Littman, Clerk to Governors at suelittman@lgs.slough.sch.uk no later than Monday 3rd March.  You must include a short personal statement, no longer than 150 words, to support your nomination; you must also have your nomination endorsed by someone with a close connection to the school, preferably another parent.

Online meeting for interested parents

If you are seriously considering standing and are not currently a serving LGS governor, you are asked to attend a short online meeting prior to returning the nomination form.  This is to help you to understand the role of the governing board and provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions.  This meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 11th February 5.30pm with Claire Fitzgerald, Chair of Governors and myself.  If you do decide to stand, you must confirm on the form that you have attended this meeting.  Applications from nominees who have not attended this meeting will not be accepted.  Please confirm your attendance at this meeting by emailing Sue Littman, Clerk to the Governors: suelittman@lgs.slough.sch.uk by Thursday 6th February in order that joining instructions can be sent to you.
